asked questions and these are general answers about the Adult Evening Technical
Center classes.
Question:
What classes does the AETC offer?
Answer: We offer Apprenticeship (APP) and
Trade & Industry (T&I) classes such as:
Cosmetology Automotive Collision
Heating and Air Conditioning Electricity Machine
Shop
Optician Welding Barbering
Plumbing Business Food Services
NOTE: There are 12 programs, 40 courses, and 96
classes.
Question:
What do the classes cost?
Answer: The classes vary in price. The cost is determined by the class in which
you elect to enroll.
Question:
What time are the class hours?
Answer: Classes are
offered from 6:30 – 9:30 pm
Question:
What days of the week are the classes offered?
Answer: The classes are offered two nights per
week, Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday
(There are some classes that are
offered one night per week upon registration this information is provided.)
Question:
How long are the classes?
Answer: The first semester will begin in
August and run through December. There is a break and the second semester
begins in January and ends in May. The classes run on the High /secondary
school schedule.
Question: Is financial aid offered?
Answer: No, the
AETC does not offer financial assistance. Future plans are being researched to
offer this service.
Question:
How can I enroll in a class?
Answer: There are several ways to enroll:
1. You
can go on line by using our website address:
Richmond.k12.va.us/AETC and Enroll
in your desired class.
2. ATEC
offers walk in registration the week before classes are to begin. You come to the AETC South building location
and register in the evening between 6:00-8:00 pm, Mon-Thur.
3. In
the mail out brochure is an application that can be completed and submitted
along with class tuition-mail in registration
Question:
Are there counselors to offer assistance in the selection of the proper class?
Answer: No, there are no counselors
available, but there are Coordinators for each program area. These individuals are well versed in their specific discipline and can make
suggestions on the course in which to enroll.
Question:
How many years will it take to complete a program?
Answer: The programs are listed one year,
two years or four years.
Question:
Who is the Coordinator or Administrator of the evening classes?
Answer: Mr. William H. Baul is the
AETC Administrator.
Question:
What are the office hours?
Answer: The AETC office is opened from 5:30-9:30
Monday through Thursday.
Question:
Will I receive a diploma or certificate upon completion?
Answer: Yes, students who meet the
requirements for completion will
receive a certificate.
Question:
Is there a test for the journeymen’s license offered through AETC?
Answer: No, the test is offered
through PSI exams, after DPOR approval.
Question:
How many classes are required to complete the Cosmetology or Barbering?
Answer:
Cosmetology and Barbering programs are two semesters in length, 150 clock
hours, 75 hours per semester.
Question:
Is there anyone who can help me with my paperwork in preparation for the State
Board to get my license in Cosmetology and Barbering?
Answer:
Yes, the Coordinator for Personal Services is available to assist in this
process.
Question:
How many nights can I miss per semester?
Answer: Each student is allowed one (1) night per
semester. Missed nights can be made up by attending another similar class with
the authorization of your instructor before the end of the semester.
Question: Can I get my money back if I have a problem
with a class?
Answer: Reimbursements are granted based on certain
administrative criteria such as:
1. Must
meet deadline identified in the policy page.
2. Must
provide an original copy of your receipt.
3. Reason
must be justified and approved by the administrator.
Question: If I have a complaint
about my class, teacher, projects, etc. Who
should I speak with?
Answer: Inquires should first be
addressed to the Program Coordinator. If
satisfaction is not reached then address the concern to the AETC Administrator.
Question: What is the
Apprenticeship Program and how can I register?
Answer: The Apprenticeship program
is an agreement between an employer and you the student. AETC offers related instruction and this is
half of the State requirement for certification/license.
Question: What does DPOR mean?
Answer: The Department of
Professional Occupational and Regulation.
